Who you ask for guidance is an important part of your search for the perfect degree, diploma, or English language course. Not only do you need to make sure that you’re speaking with your education counsellor in a language that you’re comfortable with – but it’s also nice to know that they understand where you’ve come from. Being counselled by education experts who understand your employment opportunities both in Australia and your home country in Colombia can even give you a leg up when you graduate.
So we’ve featured one of our (many) experts who can provide you with education counselling in Spanish. Hailing from Brisbane, Lorent Quintero has a unique approach to education counselling based on her own experience. We spoke with her to find out more about how they can help you with your study journey.
Lorent Quintero from Brisbane
Ms Quintero travelled to Australia to study 9 years ago, and never looked back.
“I’m looking forward to sharing my personal experiences with students, as a former international student myself”, she tells us, on what motivated her to become a Sofiri Education Expert.
“I initially came to Australia to just study English”, she says, “but then decided to do a couple of business certificates as well. Then I went on to do a bachelor degree.
“I actually did a university study in Colombia as well. So if you’re wondering what the differences are in learning approaches between the two countries, I’d tell you that Australian universities focus on the realities of how you’ll implement your degree learnings in the real world, while in Colombia you’ll learn more about theory (and you might find you’ll study subjects that aren’t related to your future career).
“I love Australia. From the beach-going weather that’s great for having a ‘barbie’ (barbeque) in the sun, to the culture here which is incredibly supportive and welcoming, I’d say that studying in Australia will totally change your life for good.
“One thing I particularly enjoy is how safe I feel here. You can walk late at night and still feel safe, especially outside of the bigger cities. Many people here leave their houses unlocked often, because they know that nothing will happen. The quality of life here is great.”
Advice for aspiring students
It’s been 9 years since Ms Quintero first came to Australia to study. Since then, she’s worked in the education industry, with international students in service and support roles.
“Studying in Australia means that you’ll get to meet people from all over the world. Because Australian education is recognised almost globally, the opportunities for you once you graduate are enormous.
“As part of the education counselling process we’ll go through together, I’ll begin by asking you questions about your career goals. That will give us a good base to work from, to understand where and what will suit your needs next. We’ll chat about whether you’d like to come to Australia to study and migrate, or only to study. We’ll also make sure that the university or college you choose ticks all the boxes you need.
“I’m here to share my Australian experience with you, and help you start on this journey!”
You can speak with Lorent Quintero to get guidance on your study options in Australia now. Our Education Experts, like Ms Quintero, are some of the most knowledgeable professionals in the education industry today, providing education counselling in Spanish, the main language of Colombia.
