A pathway to the Bachelor of Community Services through Stott’s College

Upon successful completion of the Diploma of Community Services, international students will be eligible for 8 credit exemptions in the Bachelor of Community Services. Therefore, the length of the course will be 16 subjects generally completed in 6 study periods.

Campuses, Intakes and Fees

The Diploma of Community Services is offered in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth where Melbourne has evening classes while the others have day-time ones.

Full fees for 2019 for the Diploma costs AU10,000 for the first year and AU$8,000 for the second year. The Bachelor of Community Services costs $18,800 per year.

The fee for all the materials needed in both courses and the administration fee is only AU$600.

You are not required to pay more than the initial tuition fee amount as stated on your offer letter (or 50% of the tuition fee) before the start of the course. However, you do have a choice to pay more than 50% of the tuition fees or the full course fees up front if you wish to. Any amount of fees paid before the start of the course will be reflected on the Confirmation of Enrolment (COE).

The intakes for the Diploma are January, April, July and September.

What are the requirements?

  • You have to be 18 years or older.
  • Completion of Year 12 studies or equivalent.
  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.
  • You will also need to obtain evidence of a Police Check to ensure participation in fieldwork placement.

If we compare the tuition fees of a Bachelor of Community Services among other education providers – Whether is a College or a University- you will see that the one provided by Stott’s College is very affordable and its quality is pretty high.

Diploma of Community Services

The Diploma of Community Services aims to provide you with skills in consultation, community program development, group work, advocacy, case management, policy, and research. You will also gain the knowledge, skills, and values required to perform competently as a professional community service worker across a variety of settings within the social and community services industry. These may include areas such as mental health, child protection, homelessness, family and domestic violence, employment support and migrant services.

To receive this qualification you must complete 16 units, 8 core and 8 electives. Students attend college 20 hours per week, either 4 evening per week or 3 days per week.

The course is conducted in 8 terms, each comprising 10 weeks, inclusive of holidays.

The course requires 400 hours mandatory Supervised Fieldwork Placement.  Fieldwork Placements are a requirement of the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) and an integral part of Stott’s College

Bachelor of Community Services

The Bachelor of Community Services is a fully accredited Australian higher education degree. It is designed to prepare you for ethical, competent, and culturally relevant community service generalist practice and to equip you with the skills you need for life-long learning and professional development.  You will work at the interface between people and their environments, focusing on experiences of individuals, families, groups and communities.  Some areas of service provision may include child welfare, hospice and palliative care, juvenile justice and corrections and advocacy. 

You will be exposed to the theory and values base of human services practice, as well as the knowledge and necessary skills required to work as a professional at a managerial level in the community services sector.  You will have the necessary foundation knowledge and skills in community services management to continue to a relevant post-graduate higher education program at a university or a private education provider.

The Bachelor of Community Services course will be delivered through teacher-led classroom delivery in the form of lectures and tutorials. Most units require students to attend a two-hour lecture and a one-hour tutorial.  The course is conducted over Trimesters with three semesters in each academic year.  The units are taught concurrently within the trimester, and the course will be completed within three years (unless you do the pathway).  The course has 24 units across eight trimesters offering units in Community Services, Counselling, Systems and Policy, Coordination and Support, Specialist Skills, and Fieldwork.

The course also requires you to complete two separate work placements in a community welfare agency, a total of 400 hours (combined).  These placements are designed to meet the requirements of the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).

Course outcomes (Careers)

International students who have undertaken the Bachelor of Community Services can seek the Australian Community Workers’ Association full membership as a Welfare Centre Manager upon graduation.
